Volunteer Opportunities
Backbone Club: Would you like to develop relationships with volunteers who have similar interests while learning to be a community leader?
Since 1962, the Backbone Club of Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce has been a training ground for the region's leaders, and is primarily responsible for bringing in new members to the Chamber.
Participation as a member of the Backbone Club provides an excellent way for you and the business you represent to become well-known in the community and to build long-lasting relationships. Participation also enhances your employer's business relationships with the region's community leaders and their businesses.
The Club meets monthly to report on the results of membership solicitation efforts and to network with each other. Top producers are recognized at the Chamber's annual meeting, and club members who meet their goals receive an all-expense paid trip to the Homestead and to Myrtle Beach with the group.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Backbone Club, contact Deborah Lindsay, vice president of sales and membership services, at 983.0700 x222.
Ambassadors: Would you like to have the opportunity to expand your client base while volunteering for an organization that creates a climate for your business to be successful?
Chamber Ambassadors are a key group of Chamber volunteers. Through member interaction on calls, visits, and at Chamber events, Ambassadors provide member service assistance by reinforcing the benefits of Chamber membership, increasing the members’ knowledge of the Roanoke Regional Chamber, soliciting members’ input on Chamber programs, and opening more channels of communication between Chamber leadership and members.
Becoming an Ambassador, allows you to create contacts in the business community, open the door for you to do business in the Roanoke Region, network with fellow Ambassadors, support the Chamber’s mission, and enjoy volunteering for the Chamber.
Ambassadors hold their monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of every month at 4 PM. Ambassadors are asked to attend a minimum of nine monthly meetings and make a minimum of three visits or six calls to Chamber members each month. The Ambassador of the Year is awarded at the Chamber’s annual meeting. Quarterly incentives are also given for you and your company.
If you are interested in becoming an Ambassador, contact Deborah Lindsay, vice president of research and logistics, at 983.0700 x222.
