Business Spotlight: Kelly Giarla with MKB Realtors

Meet Kelly Giarla, a Realtor with MKB REALTORS® in Roanoke, Virginia. Kelly has a passion for taking care of others. With years of previous experience caring for patients and families in the ICU as a Registered Nurse, she is now driven to continue caring for people by helping with their real estate needs. She prides herself on being a hard worker and compassionate person. Able to work in high stress environments while still focusing on each client’s individual needs are skills that come naturally. Add in confidence, an infectious smile and outgoing personality, and she is sure to put you at ease during any transaction.

Also included in her work experience are 14 years of co-running and working at a sign business in Roanoke. It was during this time that she met and networked with several individuals and companies and got to know even more about what Roanoke Valley has to offer. Having knowledge of the local restaurants, shops, outdoor venues, and museums helps provide another informational resource for her clients, her favorite venue being Dr. Pepper Park in downtown Roanoke where she enjoys concerts all summer.

Kelly spent her youth in Salem and has also lived in Roanoke and Franklin Counties. Living in multiple counties has proven helpful in having insight into all these areas and what they have to offer for her clients. Five years ago, she moved to her dream home in Franklin County, a 110-year-old farmhouse just yearning for restoration. Now blessed with the opportunity to pour life back into this antique structure, she has gained experience with hands-on construction, restoration, and design. She knows how important the right property is to a person. “When you find that perfect home, you just know it, it’s definitely where my heart is.”

Being an extreme animal and nature lover, she enjoys horseback riding, kayaking, fishing, or any other outdoor activity. She can often be found in the fields and barn of her home caring for her horses, chickens, or many goats.

So, whether it’s a condo, family home in a subdivision, hobby farm, lake property, or large acre tract with that historic farmhouse you have been dreaming of restoring, let Kelly Giarla take care of you and your family. She loves meeting new people and can’t wait to talk with you!

Business Spotlight: LewisGale

LewisGale Regional Health System Keeping Pace with Growth in Virginia’s Blue Ridge

With its recent designation as a Level II Trauma Center and opening its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Salem, and continued commitment to increased access, LewisGale Regional Health System is working to anticipate and meet the needs of Virginia’s Blue Ridge. “These advancements underscore our commitment to providing care for our patients no matter where they live, said Alan Fabian, LewisGale Regional Health System market president. “We are bringing services close to where our patients are, and where there is great demand for this type of care.”

LewisGale Medical Center began its pursuit of Level II trauma status in spring 2022 in response to the area’s need for enhanced levels of comprehensive emergency service. As a designated Level II Trauma Center, the prompt, comprehensive critical care provided by the hospital not only benefits residents, but also outlying areas as it now serves as a back-up care center for rural and community hospitals. The hospital’s trauma program is staffed 24-hours a day by board-certified trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, critical care physicians, and trauma trained nurses. The team is prepared for everything from gunshots to vehicle crashes, as well as injuries from other common traumas like falls.

“Earning these designations is a reflection of the tremendous dedication that our physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff have shown as we developed the trauma program,” Fabian said. “Their efforts are already resulting in more lives being saved, and we are proud to provide our community with quality trauma care.”

Opened in late 2023, the hospital’s Level II NICU has already served numerous families, keeping moms and babies together. The 3,000 square foot space features six bassinets and treats medically fragile, premature infants and full-term newborns with infections, breathing difficulties, growth restrictions, and maternal health concerns.

The $2.5 million-dollar investment features a highly secured area and constant monitoring of babies’ heart rates, respiratory rates, temperature, and blood pressure. Radiant warmers, incubators, and open cribs are also featured. “This underscores our commitment to providing care for our patients, especially women and children throughout their lives. The NICU is yet another example of our dedication to meet the growing needs of our community,” Fabian said.

As part of its commitment to increased access, the LewisGale Medical Center has two freestanding emergency rooms, one near Tanglewood Mall and the other near the Blue Hills Industrial Park. LewisGale Hospital Montgomery will open the region’s third in Christiansburg later this year. Designed with patients in mind, the freestanding emergency rooms feature a fully equipped trauma bay, advanced imaging equipment, and onsite laboratory testing.

In conjunction with the hospital’s parent company, HCA Healthcare, LewisGale Regional Health System is also committed to training the next generation of healthcare providers. The hospital is a partner with Galen College of Nursing on Route 419 in Roanoke County, which will soon graduate its first nursing student class, with some committed to serving our area.
