Events & Communications Specialist (part-time, 20 hours / week)


Job Description

 The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, the leading business organization in western Virginia, has an immediate opening for a part-time Events & Communications Specialist. The Chamber is a non-profit, membership-driven organization representing 800+ businesses and organizations across Virginia’s Blue Ridge. The Chamber’s mission is to promote, stimulate, & improve business. The chosen candidate will work alongside the Director of Events & Communications and Director of Membership Experience to execute the strategic vision of the Chamber across our program of work.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Events & programs execution
  • Ribbon Cutting requests (coordination & logistics)
  • Social Media management (content creation, scheduling)
  • E-Mail system management (segmentation)
  • Gather current events through membership engagement for communications
  • Assist in the creation and proofing of VBR Life; the Chamber’s premiere publication for promoting the region
  • Assist with execution of the annual Total Resource Campaign (TRC)
  • Act as the Chamber liaison for Leadership Roanoke Valley (LRV); work closely with the LRV Advisory Council and Chair to administer the program


  • Must have an outgoing personality and possess excellent people skills
  • Must possess strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Must take initiative and be a self-starter
  • Must have strong communication skills including interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
  • Proficiency with Membership Management and/or CRM software
  • Proficiency with Website Management software (WordPress, etc.)
  • Ability to attend any Chamber function with member involvement, including morning and evening events
  • Operate with a growth mindset; identify ways to meet the changing needs of members

 Nice-to-haves, but not required:

  • Past experience at a trade association, chamber, or membership organization.
  • Proficiency with:
    • Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro)
    • Canva
    • Email Marketing Software (Constant Contact, MailChimp, etc.)
    • Social Media Management Software (Buffer, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.)
    • Video editing

Reports to:

  • President and CEO, Chamber Board of Directors


  • $15 / hour
  • 20 hours / week (with potential for more as applicable)
