CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Cox Communications announces Nneka Chiazor as Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for the Virginia region. Chiazor will oversee Cox’s public and government affairs in Virginia, encompassing all aspects of state and local government relations, employee communications, and media and community relations including the programming partnership with YurView on Cox local origination channels throughout the state.

Chiazor brings to Cox more than 20 years of telecommunications experience and a broad policy background in wireless, wireline, and other technology areas.  She was most recently the Vice President of Public Policy & Government Affairs for Verizon Communications where she was the leading advocate before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other government agencies on a variety of policy areas, including public safety, cybersecurity and supplier diversity.

Active in numerous civic and business organizations, Chiazor is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association and has served on the Board of Directors of Somos, Inc., the telecommunications industry’s trusted toll-free number administrator as well as the Board of the Connected Vehicle Trade Association (CVTA), a non-profit business league whose mission is to advance next-generation vehicle communication.

Chiazor earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, and a Master of Science in Telecommunications Management from the University of Maryland. She is also a graduate of the Executive MBA program at Harvard Business School. She will be based in the Hampton Roads headquarters in Chesapeake.
